Residents of Lebanon and York counties can hop on a bus to their polling place for free, thanks to a new initiative by Lebanon Transit and rabbittransit. Both transit systems will waive fares for fixed-route buses, allowing riders to travel across the counties at no cost throughout the day.
In Lebanon County, Lebanon Transit announced that passengers will enjoy free rides on fixed-route buses all day on Election Day, including trips before and after polling hours. The effort, dubbed “Drive the Vote,” is part of a larger initiative to encourage voter turnout, making it easier for community members to reach polling places or the ballot drop box at the Lebanon County Municipal Building.
For all other riders, Lebanon Transit’s fixed-route buses operate as flag-stop services, allowing passengers to signal the driver to stop at safe locations along the route. Complete route maps and schedules are available online, onboard buses, at the Transfer Station on 7th and Willow Streets, and at Lebanon Transit’s main office at 200 Willow Street in Lebanon.
Meanwhile, in York County, rabbittransit is partnering with Shiloh Baptist Church to offer free fares on all fixed-route buses on Nov. 5. The church is subsidizing the fares for the day, aiming to help voters get to polling stations located along fixed routes. Passengers are not required to show a bus pass or pay a fare to board the bus.
Riders can find their designated polling locations through the Bureau of Elections or by visiting the trip planning tool on each transit agency’s website. Lebanon Transit has also posted a list of polling stations within a half-mile of fixed routes, allowing riders to plan their travel effectively. Rabbittransit passengers in York County can use the Google Transit Trip Planner on rabbittransit.org for assistance.
It’s important to note that these promotions do not apply to Shared Ride, Paratransit, Stop Hopper, or rabbitEXPRESS services in either county.
For more information, passengers are encouraged to contact Lebanon Transit and rabbittransit customer service or visit their respective websites for route details.
